WHAT IS POST-SURGICAL REHAB?

Post-surgical rehabilitation (or post-op rehab) is a specific treatment designed to support you after surgery to get you moving, strong, and functional again. At Physiothenix in Toronto, our physiotherapist uses exercises, manual therapy and specific movements to gradually build up muscle strength and joint flexibility. Our Toronto chiropractor supports this process by addressing any muscular tension or joint pains that have developed from compensation patterns or inactivity during the recovery period. Together these therapies provide a full body approach to recovery and pain relief.

At Physiothenix our post-op rehab programs are tailored to each patient’s individual needs and recovery goals considering the type of surgery and their physical condition. By working with a combined team of our physiotherapist and chiropractor, you get a full plan that not only speeds up recovery but prevents future complications. This means a smoother transition back to daily activities and optimal physical health.

Common surgeries we cover in post-surgical rehab

  • Joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder)

  • ACL reconstruction

  • Rotator cuff repair

  • Spinal surgeries (fusion, decompression)

  • Fracture repairs

  • Tendon or ligament repairs

  • Abdominal surgeries (e.g., hernia repair)

  • Carpal tunnel surgery

FAQS

  • The timing to begin post-surgical rehab in Toronto depends on the type of surgery and your doctor’s recommendation. In many cases, rehab can start within a few days to a week after surgery to prevent stiffness and begin gentle strengthening, but it’s important to follow your surgeon’s advice.

  • Post-op rehab duration varies based on the surgery type and individual recovery rates, but expect it to take a minimum of 4-6 weeks. At Physiothenix, part of your treatment is what you do at home, too, which can delay or maintain your progress.

  • While post-op rehab may involve some discomfort, especially early in recovery, we will adjust exercises to your comfort level. The goal is to improve mobility and strength gradually without causing significant pain, and any discomfort should lessen as you progress.

  • Appointments cancelled or changed within 24 hours are subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to 50% of the cost of the session. This policy holds true for no-shows, as well. If you have an extenuating circumstance, please call us.

  • Typically, we can direct bill under physiotherapy or chiropractic. However, please check with your third-party provider to confirm if they offer coverage for rehabilitation specifically.

  • No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to access most of our services. Some insurers require a doctor’s note for some therapies so be sure to check with yours.

02 Treatment

Because of Physiothenix I am back to feeling great, riding my bike, and playing basketball. I've had quite a bit of experience rehabbing from sports injuries and Landyn is the first physiotherapist who not only rehabbed my knee, but strengthen all the surrounding areas by adding in activities that simulate the sports I play. He really cares about getting you back to doing the activities you love and making sure you are stronger than before the injury.

CODY WESLEY

I highly recommend Joshua as a chiropractor! I was struggling with thoracic pain that affected my muscle-ups, but after just a few sessions, I noticed a significant improvement. Joshua took the time to assess my condition and created a tailored treatment plan. His approach not only alleviated my pain but also improved my mobility and strength. He also provided valuable exercises to help prevent future issues. I can now perform muscle-ups without discomfort! Thanks Joshua!
